Stomp Out Bad Midwest Wine Reporting
Midwest Wine Press is not going to win any Pulitzer Prizes. We know that there are typos and mistakes in our copy from time to time. Having a copyeditor would be a great luxury. (Any volunteers?)
Despite our shortcomings, I can honestly say all of our writers try hard to produce a quality product, often for little or no compensation. That’s why the lead from the attached news report from WXOW bothers me.
It reads: When it comes to wine, Wisconsin may not be your first thought.
Brilliant writing, except 1,000 people have already used that lead. If you can’t come up with something better, please start the story with a quote.
In fairness, the WXOW interviews are good. The mother and daughter Delaney team at Wisconsin’s Elmaro Vineyards make great wine. Any wine lover who goes to Elmaro and the other quality wineries lining the Mississippi River in Wisconsin, Northern Iowa and Minnesota is going to have fun. The scenery this time of year is breathtaking too.
