Probing the “Whole Foods Gap”
If you’ve been at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods or any of the new upscale grocers recently, you’ve probably noticed that the food is expensive, but the wine is often cheap.
In a recent article from the Terroirist, the question is raised: Why do consumers who obsess about the origins of their food, not care about where their wine comes from or how it was farmed?
Recently, more studies are showing that agricultural chemicals -fungicides in particular- are making their way into finished wine. As a result, we expect consumers will start to favor sustainably grown and organic wines. Savvy wine producers will be in front of this trend by stressing low impact grape growing techniques.
