French Grape Breeders Using Native American Genes
Native American grapes don’t make great wine (Norton excluded) but they do withstand cold and disease better than most wine grapes. Now, according to winesearcher.com., the French National Institute of Agronomic Research is crossing traditional French varietals with an unnamed American native species. While the French are seeking wine grapes that don’t require chemical sprays, the new grapes could have application in the New World.
