2015 Missouri Valley Wine Competition Photos

Midwest Wine Press was a judge at the 2015 Missouri Valley Wine Society (MVWS) Wine and Label Competition thanks to an invitation by way of Belvoir Winery’s Jesse Leimkuehler. The event was held in the basement of the First State Community Bank in Warrenton, Missouri on February 15th.

“There will probably be some wines you will never have tried in your life,” said MVWS President, Bob Treutken as he officially opened the competition. 320 entries were received, from 13 states including 1 Canadian province.

The event was very well organized with 9 tables making an elegant white table-clothed spread in the bank’s basement. Each table represented a different category, from American reds to sparkling wines and meads. All the entries were made by amateurs and hobbyists and included wines made from kits. Up to 3 judges per table spent several hours tasting wines.

MWP enjoyed a lot of the wines and took number 273 on the American Red table – an interesting dry red blend of Chambourcin, Noiret and De Chaunac – home to finish.

Results will be posted on the MVWS website after March 12.
