US Winery Numbers Up Again
Wines & Vines magazine reports that during the last year the total number of wineries in the United States has increased from 7,498 to 7,762. Quoting research from their 2014 Directory & Buyer’s Guide, the magazine says two Western states and two mid-Atlantic states had the fastest winery growth rates: Arizona counted 14.3% more wineries, Maryland 11.1%, Colorado 7.1% and Pennsylvania 4.8%. The research uses an interesting term: part of the total includes 1,197 wineries referred to as ‘virtual wineries’ that have brand names and produce wine at host facilities. Midwest Wine Press will be publishing a ranking of Midwest wineries in April that includes changes in the number of Midwest wineries.
