These photos don’t have anything to do with grapes or wine. However, after reading an editorial in today’s Chicago Tribune questioning why anyone would live here, I felt compelled to speak for those of us who enjoy snowstorms. (Sub-zero cold is another matter.)
If it wasn’t cold here, the Great Lakes would not exist. So why not take a stroll down to the Lake for a few shots of our inland sea in its natural winter state?

Lake Michigan at the south end of Monroe Harbor near the Shedd Aquarium. The breakwater is barely visible among the ice. That’s the bike path on the right.
Despite the weather, the wait to get into the Shedd Aquarium was 30 minutes
