Leelanau Harvest Stompede: Messy and Fun

On September 8th, runners raced through Leelanau Peninsula Vineyards followed by a self guided wine tour of Leelanau Peninsula Vintner’s Association (LPVA) member wineries.  The tour, which included 19 wineries, highlighted local foods and each winery’s food pairing featured locally sourced items.   A cloudburst coincided with the conclusion of the race, but the rest of day was autumn at its best in Northern Michigan wine country.

According to Andy McFarlane with LPVA,  900 people participated in the race and and 950 participated in the Harvest Stompede trail event. Attendance for both events increased by 150 from last year.

“It’s great to see the interest in Leelanau wines so strong amidst what looks to be a fantastic harvest. There’s already harvesting & crush – over a week early and it appears that winemakers are going to get to pick their moment for harvest!” McFarlane said.

Nice article. That first picture is me and my 2 daughters-age 16 and 13. We all ran, along with my husband, together in our first family race-it was an awesome day and race!
