Midwest Wineries Double Medal Count at Finger Lakes Competition

18 Midwestern wines won Double Gold Medals and 37 Midwestern wineries won Gold Medals at Finger Lakes. 3,756 wines from all 50 US states and 20 countries entered this year’s competition that was held in Rochester, New York. 75 of the world’s top wine judges assessed the wines.
The highest honors — the Special Award section of the competition — were shared by two Midwest wineries. Missouri’s St. James Winery Riesling won the John Rose Award for Best-In-Class-Riesling. The Finger Lakes Region of New York is considered one of the best regions in the world for Riesling and many consider this award the most prestigious prize in the competition. For the third year running, a Midwest winery has won this Riesling accolade — for the previous two years it was Michigan’s Chateau Fontaine.
Ohio’s, Chalet Debonne won the Special Award section for the Best-In-Class Ice Wine. The Ohio winery’s ice wine is made 100% Vidal blanc grapes.

Might look up our winery when doing a story of Finger Lakes wine Competition. We have historically done well every year we have entered. 2012, 13 double gold and 14 gold. I hate it when small wineries get overlooked.
Apologies Galen! I hate it too..my oversight and thanks for pointing it out. I’ve corrected that and added a link to our story on the 2012 winners, alongside the 2013 winners – so Ladoga now takes its rightful place as a winning winery in all 3 stories. kind regards, Danny (using Mark G’s log-in)
