Claverach Farm is 300 acres of rugged ground in the Ozark hills just 20 miles outside of St. Louis, Missouri. We have been growing vegetables, fruits, and wine grapes here for 20 years, using a combination of organic and biological methods.
Four years ago we shifted away from market vegetable farming to focusing on our true passion: putting food from the farm on people’s plates. We host farm dinners in our 100-year-old barn that showcase the freshness and quality of the produce that we grow here. We also make wine on the farm that we sell primarily at our farm dinners. We grow chambourcin, bianca, petit manseng, marsanne, viognier, and cabernet franc.
We are seeking a skilled farm hand for the 2016 season to help us with production and general farm maintenance. A strong back and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly is a must. The ability to work independently is also required. Mechanical expertise and/or carpentry experience would be a plus.
Winter and early spring responsibilities will include forestry management, collecting and splitting firewood for our wood-burning furnace and wood oven, fence repair, putting up high tunnels, controlled burning, pruning grapevines and other perennial crops, as well as dismantling and erecting vineyard trellising.
Spring, summer, and fall responsibilities will include cultivating, mowing, weed-eating, backpack spraying, canopy management in the vineyard, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting.
This position will start February or March, depending on candidate’s availability. 20-40 hours per week, depending on candidate. Rate of pay dependent on experience level.
To apply, please send an email detailing your experience level and why you think you are a suitable candidate for the job. Please attach a resume.
