Another tip for winery owners: be very welcoming to your wine tour operators. They have a choice where they take their guests, and a tasting room or winery that supports them (maybe no tasting fees etc.) will get that support back. I know from experience, our wine tour guests love to bring home bottles from almost every winery we visit. If I get special treatment from the winery, like a cave tour or vineyard tour, the result is a new wine club member or a larger purchase. I also I return there.

Great information…the sales staff should be trained to ask for the sale at the end of a wine tasting. The easiest way is to pay attention to what the customer liked and then ask for the sale….such as…In notice you like wine X and wine Y, would you like to take home (case/bottle) of wine X or wine Y? Many wine tasters need that extra push and saying no is not easy after you have enjoyed some nice wines.
